A trip to Barcelona in a few weeks to see this exhibit that has been extended to February:
Apartheid: The South African Mirror
My friend Ana Lara saw it in December and I was entranced by her description of the exhibit and will make the trek to see it.
I will almost do anything to see a great exhibit. Once, when I lived in San Francisco, I took a trip to Washington, D.C. because there was a once in a lifetime exhibition of Vermeer's work from Nov. 1995 - Feb. 1996 at the National Gallery. It was a first of its kind show and I knew I'd probably never see that much Vermeer in once space ever again. So I went in the last days of the show in Feb. '96. The exhibit was free but you had to get passes. As I was standing in line, a beautiful, impeccably dressed black couple came up to me and offered me an extra pass that they had. I was so happy. They disappeared and I entered the bliss of the National Gallery. From the gallery's press release of that show:
The exhibition drew extraordinary crowds, and free passes were required for admission at all times. All available advance passes were completely distributed about halfway through the run of the exhibition, and lines for daily passes grew longer each morning. Beginning on November 24, hours were extended until 7 p.m. every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, and from February 1, until 9 p.m. each night. [ more... ]

What decision changed the course of your life?
Submitted by Ally.
During my senior year of college, I stopped applying and responding to corporate recruitment programs i.e. consulting firms, investment banks and the like. I decided I really didn't want to be climb the corporate ladder so I graduated jobless and with barely a cent to my name. And loads of debt. But I'm glad I made that decision.
