it is a keith sweat listening party up in my air conditioned environs today. i listened to one of my fave slow jams "make it last forever" first to get me ready for the new offering from mr. "how deep is your love." i remember the summer of '88 when i was in nyc, bumpin' sweat's make it last forever lp as was the rest of the city so much that wbls declared one weekend "please no more keith sweat" for two days. the album had come out in nov. '87 and was part of the soundtrack to my first year of college. it was the new jack era and sweat was working it. so more than two decades later we get a new jack remixed, just me from the crooner who loves to whine to the ladies. and i have to say "ohmigod, keith sweat" i'm loving it. go keef, go keef, make it last forever babee.

seen on e. houston st. in san antonio across the railroad tracks from the massive at&t center sports complex where the spurs and the silver stars play basketball. i went to see my dream team seattle storm (lauren jackson, sheryl swoopes, swin cash, yolanda griffith, sue bird-an epic roster) play the silver stars on saturday. seattle looked tired and out of rhythm. i was able to get an amazing seat, gratis and courtesy of st. philips college president, dr. adena williams loston who spotted me waiting in line waiting for a ticket and offered an extra one to me. thank you pres. loston! loston is also the former chief education officer at nasa. i felt honored to have such an accomplished african-american woman be so gracious to me, a mere stranger, to invite me to sit with the st. philips contingent. she even shared her hot wings!

lauren jackson next to erin buescher. erin killed seattle in the final quarter with her three-pointers. i was able to get some good photos but work calls and i don't know when i'll have time to sort through them.

penguin stencil @ a construction site near la chapelle metro station, paris, france.
i remember this day. i was in a hurry but of course this stencil stopped me in my tracks. i don't even know how i spotted it as it was behind me but i'm always fascinated with construction sites in old cities and puttered for a sec to check it out. i was on my way to a wee (and amazing) art gallery to see cheryl bolden's talk on her exhibit 'precious cargo.' after the talk a big group of us went en masse to a teeny indian restaurant near la chapelle. on the way, we witnessed french police conduct a street sweep of a few dozen north africans, lining them up against a sidewalk wall and herding several into the back of a police van. i got a few seconds on video but one of my young afro-french compatriots was all nervous when he saw me with my camera aiming at the police 'cause "they don't like it when people take photos." at the restaurant, the conversation was flying in all directions, in english and french, mostly about politics and how the effects of sarkozyism has affected afro-french pride, that 'we are one france' bullsh*t. later that week, bolden invited me to lunch with her and her daughter. i learned a lot more about her incredible collection of art/artifacts. we ended up at a mac store afterwards where i played with a just arrived macbook air while she negotiated with a male store employee who was steeped in anti-customer service doubletalk and bitterness at being in a service position. dude was not trying to help a sista. what does all this have to do with a penguin?

In the past few months, I've had five articles on afterellen.com. The latest went up last night--an interview with Bree, the latest rapper to be eliminated from the VH1 reality series "Miss Rap Supreme" shot in Los Angeles. it is currently featured on the front page. I really need to update my portfolio with these articles and a ton of other stuff that I've done in the past few months but life has been beyond hectic. It helps that I'm an insomniac.
